Vittoriale ( Gardone Riviera ) The Vittoriale degli Italiani is a complex of buildings, streets, squares, an open-air theatre, gardens and waterways built between 1921 and 1938 in Gardone Riviera, on the Brescia side of Lake Garda. The complex was commissioned by the poet and novelist Gabriele d'Annunzio, who is buried there and who entrusted the project to the architect Giancarlo Maroni so that the place represented the memory of the "inimitable life" of the poet-soldier and the exploits of the soldiers Italians during the First World War. Vittoriale often refers to d'Annunzio's sole home, located within the complex, which is instead the part called Prioria.
